How I Raised My Credit Score in Just One Week: A Credit Repair Tale in Vallejo! 🪄

Credit repair is an incredibly powerful tool that, when used correctly, can help people improve their credit scores. I have seen it time and time again, people disputing incorrect or outdated items on their credit reports and seeing their scores improve. In reality, it's a process that allows consumers to take advantage of their consumer protection rights and dispute the validity of each account on their credit report. This means that you, the consumer, have the right to ask any data furnisher (creditor or collection agency) with whom you have current or previous debt liabilities to provide VALID proof of the accuracy and validity of the debt.

Oftentimes, errors can occur when an employee responsible for reporting to the credit reporting agency types in the wrong amount of a payment you made or forgets to report specific info to your credit report. If these errors go uncorrected, it can result in you paying an incorrect balance, a "past due balance" being reported inaccurately, or an incorrect interest rate.

Credit repair is a process that can help you to use different delivery methods like mail, phone, and fax to request a data furnisher or credit reporting agency to verify or validate an account. To do credit repair successfully, it is essential to have a good understanding of the credit reporting laws.

It is an effective tool, and I have seen people achieve great results when used correctly. It is important to remember that you have these consumer protection rights, and you can take advantage of them with credit repair.

What is the most effective way to repair credit?

The most effective way to repair credit is by actively managing and improving your financial habits. This includes consistently making timely payments, reducing debt, keeping credit utilization low, and avoiding new credit accounts unless necessary. Regularly reviewing your credit reports for errors and disputing inaccuracies is also crucial. Taking these proactive steps and maintaining responsible financial behavior over time will help improve your creditworthiness and repair your credit.

Send out dispute letters on your own

I would suggest that if you don't have the time to research the credit repair process and understand the laws available to help you achieve the best results, it's best to look into hiring a Credit Repair company. Credit Repair can be a lengthy process, and it can easily take 3-5 months on average, and it will consume 1-3 hours of your time minimal each month.

Before sending out any dispute letters, it is important to learn about the credit reporting regulations that are in the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), which outline the guidelines that a Data Furnisher and/or Credit Reporting agency must follow when reporting your account information to your credit report. By researching and understanding these laws, you'll be better equipped to approach each negative account on your credit report correctly and create the best approach to dispute the accounts.

When you're ready to send out disputes, your first dispute letter must be sent to the (3) major credit reporting agencies Equifax, Experian, and Transunion, and wait on their response before sending a dispute out to the data furnisher like the original creditor or a collection agency. The Credit Reporting agencies and data furnishers must respond to your disputes within 30 business days or remove the account or reporting error from your credit report immediately.

For best results, always send your dispute letters by certified mail so you have a provable time stamp in case you ever need to file a complaint or a lawsuit. It is also important to keep records of everything you do within the process.

Use an online Dispute tool or Software

Using an online dispute tool Like Credit Karma or, better yet, submitting an online dispute with the three major credit reporting agencies is not recommended. Many people don't realize that when you dispute online, you are essentially giving up your right to redispute any item on your credit report for an entire year. Since most credit disputes aren’t resolved until after 2-4 rounds of disputes, if you are not satisfied with the outcome of your first dispute, you won’t be able to rechallenge or redispute for an entire year.

It is also not recommended to dispute online with any software or tool because the disputes they provide are typically generic and basic, and they don’t allow you to dispute using any specific consumer protection law, which means your chances of getting good results are usually limited.

Hiring a credit repair company

As someone with 15 years of experience in the Credit Repair Industry, I can tell you the pros and cons of hiring a credit repair company. Like most industries, there are good and bad companies, and you need to research before selecting the right credit repair company for you.

Pros of hiring a credit repair company

They have the expertise and experience to help you get results

Remember, when you hire any company in any industry, you pay for convenience and expertise. If you find a well-established company with a proven track record, it can be worth every penny.

Handoff Experience

You typically will get to “sit back and relax” meaning your involvement in the process is usually not necessary so you can focus on things in your life that are more important.

Education Credit Learning

Many credit repair companies will provide a credit consultation so they can provide you with information on exactly what is affecting your credit score, along with things you can do to improve it quickly.

Help with complex situations

Every credit report is different, and sometimes it will take someone who has dealt with certain circumstances to use their expertise to get some of the more complicated accounts removed.

Save money

One of the ultimate goals most people have for fixing their credit is to use their credit to make purchases at a decent and low-interest rate. Credit issues can cost you thousands of dollars annually in fees, so removing errors and increasing your credit score will save a lot in the long run.

Cons of hiring a credit repair company

No Results

Just like with anything that isn’t Guaranteed, you will run the risk of not getting any results and paying money essentially for nothing. Credit Repair is never guaranteed, so you must know what you are getting from the credit repair company before you hire them. Ask in-depth questions and also see if they provide a money-back guarantee.

Scam

Unfortunately, many fly-by-night companies in our industry do not last long, and you could fall victim to someone taking your money, and you never have any recourse. Please do your due diligence, ask the company to provide a copy of their license, and find out how long they have been in business.

Expensive

Some credit repair companies are affordable, but others charge outrageous fees. Many people struggling with their credit usually are also struggling financially, so it is essential that you shop around or try to do it on your own if you do not have a lot of money to put towards credit repair.

In the end, you have the power to make the best decision for you. Write down all your concerns and questions about fixing your credit and pick a solution that fits you best. Never settle, and always do your research.

For whom is credit repair intended?

Anyone with any kind of negative mark on their credit report should consider utilizing credit repair services. Remember, your legal right is to dispute any item on your credit report. Even if the account is legally your responsibility, it does not mean there is no error on your credit report.

During my 10-year career working with over 22,000 clients, I have seen people struggle unnecessarily with an account on their credit report that was inaccurate or invalid and paying high-interest rates due to the misconception that credit repair is only for accounts that are not theirs. Fortunately, many companies offer free credit consultations, making it easy to identify any errors or discrepancies on your credit report.

I learned this valuable lesson the hard way when I was younger, but it has since changed my perspective on credit. Contrary to popular belief, a credit score is not the determining factor for loan approval but rather credibility. The score determines the tier in which your interest rate will be. For example, I had a client with credit scores in the high 700s across the board, yet they were still denied a loan. The lender was wary of their high and recent credit inquiries, suggesting they may have already applied for the same loan with another company.

The moral of the story is to check your credit report online at least every quarter, and if you find any derogatory marks, dispute them. Credit repair is there for everyone who needs it.

What are the benefits of Credit Repair?

Seeing the scores of credit reports I have encountered over the years has made it clear why credit repair is essential. Not only is it critical to be able to obtain a loan in the future, it is likewise essential to help you break poor financial habits before they cause irreparable harm.

I always remind my clients that credit repair is one of many strategies to address credit issues. It won't solve all your financial difficulties. However, it can help you remove negative items from your credit report, thus enhancing your credit score. Moreover, it can help you remove responsibility for a debt that does not belong to you. Credit repair is a powerful tool to avoid a lifetime of mounting interest payments.

When your credit score is too low, the following may be out of reach:

-Getting a job

-Insurance

-Buying a house or car

-Approval for credit cards

-Renters Insurance

-Utility and phone companies

-Saving and investing

But take the initiative to repair your credit early on. You can set yourself up to have a greater chance of achieving financial security and establishing a bright future for your descendants. Don't wait. Start credit repair now!

What kinds of issues can Credit Repair address?

Credit Repair can help you fix all the items on your credit report, including personal information, negative accounts, negative payment history, public records, and credit inquiries. All of these items should be reviewed to ensure that the information reported is accurate and current. It is important to identify any inaccuracies, errors, or incomplete information using a highlighter to mark the items that need to be disputed. An up-to-date and accurate credit report is the key to a good credit score.

To conclude

Having good credit is essential to build wealth; bad credit will prevent you from getting to the financial level you desire.
